A condo remodel down in the Edmonds Bowl reached the day every remodel waits for: finishes in, fixtures ready, the unit waiting to become a home again. Logan took the trim-out solo and worked the entire list in a day.
What We Did
The kitchen came first: a customer-supplied basket strainer in the new sink, the owners’ disposer reinstalled along with its air switch, and a new air gap for the dishwasher line. The gas range was connected and tested twice over — bubble-tested at the joints, then checked with the sniffer. A new water line went in for the refrigerator and got flushed through before hookup.
The honest moment came at the dishwasher. On its test cycle, Logan spotted a leak from the drain hose itself — a defect, not an installation problem. Rather than leave it to drip inside a brand-new cabinet, he shut the water to it, unplugged the machine, and arranged a replacement hose — so the only casualty was a towel.
The bathroom finished the list: a new customer-supplied toilet set, two of the owners’ widespread faucets installed with their drains, and the existing shower trim reinstalled — with a deep valve extension kit we supplied in matching brushed nickel, the small part that lets old trim sit properly on a newly tiled wall.
Why It Matters
- Test day is the whole point of trim-out. Every fixture ran before the job was called done — which is exactly how a defective hose got caught while it was still a warranty item instead of a water-damage claim.
- Reusing sound fixtures is honest economics. The disposer, the shower trim and the bath faucets all went back into service. A remodel doesn’t have to mean all-new everything.
- In a condo, the stakes include the neighbors. A slow leak in a single-family crawlspace is a problem; the same leak in a third-floor condo is somebody’s ceiling. Testing isn’t a formality here.
- Gas gets checked twice. Bubble test, then sniffer. Belt and suspenders is the only standard for a range connection.
