A soft grease clog shared by the kitchen and the downstairs powder room of a central Mukilteo house, cleared by Chase in one April visit

In April 2026 a homeowner in central Mukilteo called about a powder room sink that would not drain. When Chase arrived, the kitchen sink was backing up too, while the toilet and every other fixture in the house drained normally. The cause was a soft grease clog, and he cleared it the same visit.
What We Did
Two sinks backing up together, with the toilet unaffected, told Chase where to look. That pattern points to the section of drain the two sinks share, past the point where they meet and upstream of anything the toilet uses, and that is where grease from the kitchen had settled into a soft clog.
Working from under the kitchen sink, he ran the cable through the affected section several times, raking it back and forth until the grease broke up and the line opened. Then he ran both sinks on hot water for ten to fifteen minutes to carry the loosened grease on down the line and out of the house, and confirmed nothing else in the house was affected before he packed up.
Why It Matters
- Which fixtures back up tells you where the clog is. Two sinks backing up with a working toilet points to the shared sink line, not the main.
- Kitchen grease does not stay in the kitchen drain. It travels until it cools and settles, often in a section other fixtures share.
- Clearing is half the job. Running hot water through the line afterward moves the loosened grease out instead of leaving it to settle again a few feet farther on.
